This is a note of appreciation from Neil Anderson for Barbara Oravetz for all her supports to all JFS runners during the Sundown Marathon 2010.

Martin,

The person who really deserves a very special mention from the Sundown marathon was Barb. She stayed up all night, standing beside the course with a cooler full of Pocari and an assortment of bananas, watermelon & other goodies, handing them out not only to the runners she knew, but to anyone else who looked like they needed some encouragement.

She even waited at the finish until 5.30am to inspect us as we stumbled over the line. Barb is so generous and supportive to all runners, she is an inspiration for us all!

[Sunday Run] JFS Out Of City Sunday Run. Last week Sunday run started from Jagorawi Toll's petrol station, taking us up a series of not unchallaging valley ridges until we joined up with the Citirup Joggol road at the hamlet of Cibadak.

From there we ran towards Citirup on the main road until reaching the second Steel Bridge to end the run on the Bridge. Tirnan, Heru, and Peter added 3km to their run.

It was a big group consisting 12 runners: Martin, Ninie, Kari, Craig, Tiernan, Massimo, Peter, Tom, Muara, Heru, Matt, newcomer John from Florida and 2 bikers: Agnes and Daniela.

[Sunday Run] Chinese Temple Run On Chinese New Year, 14 February. This was an outstanding run. Those of you who were there, about 25, know what that's mean. Those who weren't, perhaps next year.

A bunch of us later went to a wonderful dim sum in Kota after the run at a restaurant appropriately called "The Food Place." Great food, good prices and they didn't mind five sweating runners plus spouses soiling their dining room. ««Read less

[Race] Words from Catherine Hodgson. Dear Martin and JFS runners, THANK YOU so much for all the true support that has been given to Murray by so many of the JFS runners –  the genuine interest, encouraging words and the checking in throughout the whole training ordeal.

It has meant so much to him over the past months. Every encouraging word will be what gets him over that finish line on Saturday.

Murray is certainly ready to go to Oz – he is one and half stone lighter since August and is as fit as I have ever known him. Murray dedicates each event he does to someone and he is dedicating this ironman to his brother, Geoff, who is battling cancer in Geelong.

If you are interested on Saturday you can follow Murray at the Ironman Athlete Tracker (more information here for Athlete Tracker). The finish line will be broadcasted from 2pm Perth time. His bib number is 534.

[Run] "Not Free" at the Zoo. Your humble scribe has noticed a disurbing trend during the last few Saturdays at the zoo. A number of JFS runners are leaving without paying.

This is contrary to the agreement we have with zoo management. The implicit agreement is that we can enter before the tickets wickets open on the condition that we pay on the way out. Most of us can't pretend to be local residentsdue to our tee shirt, perspiration and other facial features.

And you can be sure that the non-payment is noted and remembered. Nothing is secret in this country. If you think that you can keep a secret in Jakarta, you haven't been here long enough. I know that most of the omissions are due to forgetfulness rather than cheapness. So remember for next time and perhaps pay one in advance. Hey big spender, you can afford 40 cents. « Read less

[Run] Appreciaton note to Martin from Sam Cook of NJIS. I would like to give a special thanks to Martin Ryan for helping me and our NJIS teachers with our practice run at the Zoo on Saturday morning.

We had 14 students running, 5 teachers, 2 parents, and 2 new JFS runners (I think they were a bit confused and thought we were the JFS crew – it was nice to have them join us).

Martin let us borrow some old JFS racing numbers, and he even set up the big JFS clock for timing. It was very smooth and the students had a great time.

They are looking forward to doing it again and for our ultimate finale Cross Country Tournament on April 17. We will probably bring the students again for another trial run in January or February. « Read less
